Here are some pics of the fuel tank being fabricated. It is made from 1/8" thick 5052 aluminum.
Pieces were all waterjet cut. This makes for an easy fit up and welding job.
Special thanks to Dave at Fruehauf Mfg for the great waterjet service. What a great vendor!
Note the internal bracing.

Perfect (almost) Wheels

One of our latest projects has been to build some fixturing for checking the roundness conditions of the rear wheels that we will be running. We plan on cutting some lightening windows in the wheels and we want to be sure that the wheel is still round after the cutting operation. We will probably have a little axial runout after the cutting operation because there will be a little stress relieving that happens during the cutting operation. We really don't know how much this will be so we decided to build the fixture so that we may know this info. Also, when we mount the tires, we can check to see what position they run the most concentric. The tires will not be perfect. The wheels will not be perfect. By strategically aligning the tire on the rim, we can create a more perfect combination.

It sort of been a long a tedious process but we are rapidly approaching the finishing of the first mold for our streamliner.
We started with the wheel pants mold as we can actually make (4) parts from this mold.
We can make both the right and left halves of the wheelpants but they will need some slight modifications.
